Name servers are a fundamental part of the Domain Name System (DNS), which is the system that translates user-friendly domain names into IP addresses that computers use to locate each other on the internet. Name servers are responsible for responding to DNS queries by providing the IP address associated with a domain name.
To change the Name Servers (DNS) for your domain name, follow these steps:
- Log in to your 1st Domains account and click on ‘Manage Domains & Services’.
- Select the domain name you wish to delegate from the list.
- Click on ‘Configure Name Servers’.
- Turn the Parking Status to ‘Off’ to enter the new Name Server information you have been provided by your new provider.
Please allow up to 24 hours for the DNS change to propagate.
Note: If you delegate your domain names to a different DNS host, our free services will no longer be available. Also you will not be able to manage your DNS records through your 1st domains account. All DNS changes would need to be done on the new DNS host. However, you can switch back to us at any time. If you would like to change the name servers back to us, you can do so by setting the parking status to "On". Alternatively, if you prefer to manually update the name servers, please use the following:
- ns1.1stdomains.net.nz
- ns2.1stdomains.net.nz
Delegating DNS away from 1st Domains will remove the ‘Manage Email Forwarders’, ‘Configure URL Redirection’, and ‘Manage DNS Zone Records’ links from the Domain Manager. To re-enable these services, you will need to park your domain name back with 1st Domains.
