If you want to cancel or remove your email or web hosting from your account, the best option is simply not to renew it when the renewal period comes around. Once it expires, the hosting will be automatically removed from your account. This approach ensures that your data is retained until the expiry date, allowing you to retrieve or reactivate services if needed during that time.
A single hosting account remains active until the service expires, which is the date up to which it has been paid in advance. If the service is not renewed before the expiry date, it will be automatically cancelled. All hosting services will stop functioning after this date. If the domain name is also not renewed, the associated data will remain on our servers during the grace period specific to that domain extension. See below for more details.
- 40 days for all gTLD domain name extensions. e.g. .com, .org, .net
- 90 days for all .nz domain name extensions.
Reactivation: The hosting service can be reactivated during the grace period by renewing it online when the domain has expired as well.
If you want your website to be taken offline, you can suspend it through the web hosting control panel. This will not affect your email hosting. See below for instructions.
To suspend your website in Plesk (recommended option), follow these steps:
-
Log in to your 1st Domains account:
- Navigate to 1st Domains Login.
- Enter your Account ID and Password.
-
Access the Web Hosting Control Panel:
- On the 'Account Manager' page, select 'Manage Domains & Services'.
- Click on the domain name you wish to manage.
- Under the 'Domain Name Services' section, click on the 'Web Hosting Control Panel' link.
-
Suspend the Website:
- Once in the Plesk Control Panel, Under status to the right of your domain name.
- Click on the drop down status menu, there is a small arrow to the right of Active. Select suspend
- You will get a popup explaining what will happen when suspending the website. Click on Yes.
- Your status will change to "Suspended". To activate you can click on the drop down again and select Acitve.
The other option, though less preferred, is to remove the A record in your DNS settings. This will have a similar effect, as visitors will no longer be able to view your site and will see an error message instead.
Either will effectively suspend your website, making it inaccessible to visitors until you choose to reactivate or add the A record back to it.
